Periodontal disease is the leading cause of the teeth loss in people age 40 and above. However, you need not lose your teeth to gum disease. With our treatment procedures, most teeth can be saved. Periodontal disease may be present without even realizing it. The inflammatory disease attacks the gums, bone and the supporting structures of the teeth but if it is caught in the early stages, it can be reversed with proper care.
In a normal tooth, the gum reaches up to the enamel, helping to protect the root and bone structures holding the tooth, but periodontal disease damages the gums exposing these previously delicate areas.
To diagnose periodontal disease, we will carry out a comprehensive oral examination which includes physical evaluations and oral X-rays. A special instrument called the periodontal tube will be used to measure the depth of the pocket between the tooth and gum tissue. All of these examinations and X-rays will allow us to determine the precise location and severity of the gum disease.
A periodontal treatment therapy will be formulated depending on how advanced the case is. With today’s state-of-the-art treatment procedures, you can rest assured that you cannot lose your teeth to gum disease.
